What gets counted
Characters are Chinese characters, kana, and Hangul syllables. Words are runs of letters. An apostrophe or hyphen between letters stays inside the word and still counts as punctuation. Digits count one by one, so 2026 is four. Punctuation, including a Chinese full stop, is its own line. Unreadable spots stay as □ and are left out of the numbers. Edit the text and the count updates on this page. A dense page can miss a mark. This is a count of what was read.
